I did this watercolor travel sketch while on vacation in Mazatlan, Mexico. It’s nice to loosen up while on vacation–and that goes for painting style as well….Kind of forces you to push your boundaries as an artist….My background has always been very detailed, controlled illustration–and many times that is what is expected of me….But it’s liberating to get more loose and let the artistic spirit show through from time to time!

I did this watercolor travel sketch while on vacation in Mazatlan, Mexico. I usually take a 9 x 12 sketchbook along, and paint whenever I feel like it–which is most of the time. In this case, the subject is the old main plaza in the historic downtown area of Mazatlan. Fun to revisit–in my mind, anyway….I’ll be back in October–Love that town!
